An "Introductory Handbook"
on Gerontological Counselling (Gero-counselling for short) was
published by SAGE COunselling Centre in May 2003. The authors are
the Centre's founder-Director and present Senior Consultant, Mrs Helen
Ko and NUS Associate Professor, Dr. Kalyani K. Mehta.
The book is the by-product
of a research project by the two scholars which analysed the counselling
approaches used by Singapore counsellors in dealing with older clients.
A total of 18 professional counsellors took part in the analysis
of case materials which were from the Counselling Centre.
The book will be used as material
in a new course, the Graduate Diploma in Social Work (Specialisation:
Gero-counselling) which will be offered from July 2004 by NUS in
collaboration with SAGE Counselling Centre.
Said Dr. Lim Chan Yong, President
of SAGE, "I congratulate Helen Ko of our Counselling Centre.
I welcome our Centre's contribution towards promoting gero-counselling
in Singapore. I am very impressed and I recommend the Handbook to
all Counsellors. They will benefit from reading it, as I have."
The Handbook is available
